The world is a book. If you never travel, you only see one page of it.

With over 142 million mobile telephone customers, 31 million fixed line and more than 17 million broadband connections, Deutsche Telekom is one of the leading integrated telecommunication companies worldwide (as of 31 December 2013).

As well as its products and services in the areas of fixed line, mobile phones, Internet and IPTV, Deutsche Telekom has been involved, among other things, in e-publishing since March 2011.

tolino is the most important e-book activity at Deutsche Telekom. The system arose in March 2013 with the cooperation between Telekom, Thalia, Weltbild and Bertelsmann from the predecessor started in November 2009, PagePlace, and since then has been the largest platform for the German book trade. The solution consists, in each case, of a cloud for customers and content, apps, e-readers and their own tablets as well as the shops of the individual partners.

Since 2014, further international partners have joined the cooperation.

Proventa AG has supported the field since its start in 2009 in varied functions, including through participation

  • in the production of the software architecture
  • in the development of the back-end software
  • in shop and app development
  • in various consulting roles, e.g., product ownership, Scrum Master, PMO, content management and coordination of the TÜV certification
  • in 24/7 maintenance and operation of the software and virtual servers, incl. setup
  • in business development nationally/internationally.

The implementation of the development services was carried out, as with almost all software projects at Proventa, with agile methods.

With the use of Scrum and Kanban, the requirements side can be covered optimally. In this way, all stakeholders could find themselves transparently with their topics in the prioritised requirements list of the product owners and at the same time it is possible to react to new topics quickly.

These methods help to use the know-how and experience of those involved in the project optimally – they talk about which goals a new feature should achieve and leave the technical details to the experts.

In the process, Scrum/Kanban and development based on subprojects for a fixed price only appear to contradict. As a result of many years of experience, we have developed methods and best practices that makes this approach an advantage to all involved.
